From the Beloved Permessus
Our inaugural concert at St. Jean Baptiste Church explored the human voice through music spanning centuries, from Monteverdi and Schubert to three premieres by our founding composers.
Ex Corde is a New York City-based, composer-led nonprofit creating concert experiences in which the music of the past and the voices of today illuminate one another.
Founded in September 2025 by composers Marco Catella, Joshua DeLozier, and Yuval Medina, Ex Corde grew from a shared conviction: contemporary music deserves more than a place on a program. We believe composers should have a voice in shaping the context in which their music is heard, and that a concert can unfold as a unified artistic experience, from its first notes to its last.
Our new works are composed with their surrounding repertoire in mind, engaging directly with the musical traditions we have inherited. Rather than separating the old from the new, we seek a living dialogue between them, creating programs in which each work enriches the meaning of the next.
Since its founding, Ex Corde has presented three productions in New York City, including seven premieres across chamber, orchestral, vocal, and operatic music.

In collaboration with NYC Orchestra Project, Ex Corde co-produced the sold-out premiere of Marco Catella's fully staged, two-act opera Prince Cnut.
Our concert for string orchestra brought together three premieres—Yuval Medina's Meltemi, Joshua DeLozier's Toccata & Fugue, and Marco Catella's To Night—alongside Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings. Conducted by Emily Frederick, the concert welcomed an audience of more than 150.
Ex Corde is jointly led by its three co-founders and artistic directors, Marco Catella, Joshua DeLozier, and Yuval Medina. Together, they conceive and curate each program, collaborating with musicians and ensembles from New York City's professional music community and beyond.
Ex Corde Ltd. is a New York-incorporated nonprofit recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity. Contributions support the creation and presentation of new concert experiences.
